Samurai Armor
While the Financial Samurai (henceforth called Sam) is a newer blog site (born in 2009), it has made a big splash in the financial blogosphere community.
Sam’s site has had an interesting past, you see, the financial samurai was actually two bloggers back when the site was started. But alas, the other blogger (I believe the younger of the two), has been snipped from the site, like an unwanted growth on a bonsai tree. I’m not sure what happened but now it’s sole Sam writing on the blog.
Friendly Site Name: Financial Samurai
URL: www.financialsamurai.com
Blog Focus:
The Samurai doesn’t provide your basic blog material, his way is to add extra excitement and sometimes stir up controversial! I’ve seen his material mature as his writing style has evolved so that he really represents a Samurai in the blogging world (actually I would really prefer to think of him as a Shogun).
While entertaining, Sam tried to shatter commonly excepted beliefs and encourages his reader to voice their thoughts. His rationale is that if we all thought the same, life would be boring.
First Known Blog Post: June, 2009
Personal:
Sam is one of those rare very successful individuals from the corporate world. From his writing, a longtime reader could read between the line and realize that Sam is an executive at a decent sized financial firm of some sort. Based on his music preference, we know that he’s a Gen Xer or there about. He’s from the San Francisco area in California.
Sam is a bachelor (or at least I think), but has had some serious relationships as reflected in his blog articles sometimes.
Sam is either wealthy or near wealthy. He owns property. He’s recently joined an expensive country club. And IMHO, he is a workaholic.
Blog Content:
When you come to Sam’s site, be prepared to be amused, challenged intellectually, or totally intrigued. His site is definitely not your standard run-of-the-mill blog, that is for sure!
Sam has also started on one of the most active and powerful financial network sites call Yakezie.com. This group is 100+ strong, so perhaps we really should call him the Financial Shogun!
Here are some of Sam’s best material (from his own About page):
- Yakezie Member Post – Financial Samurai
- “The Dark Side of Early Retirement”
- “The Curse Of Making Too Much Money And Not Pursuing Your Dreams”
- “Only The Poor And Super Rich Say, “Money Can’t Buy Happiness”
- “We’re Ignorant Idiots! Tell Us Why A Flat Tax Isn’t Fair!”
- “Do “C” Students Deserve “A” Lifestyles?”
Conclusion:
Sam’s blog is the ying to J.D. Roth’s Yang site. Both are consider financial blogs, but Sam takes it a bit further and makes it personal and controversial. Both are great site, but Sam’s site is a bit more than just a financial blog, go check it out, I’m sure you’ll agree!
Blog Rating (1 – 10): This is another site that I would have to give a 10.

The Golden Reviewer
Hi Mate,
Thanks for the review! Perhaps I have always been the younger and the older? Who knows!
Glad to see you are a fan of PF blogs. So am I. The one thing I try and do is actually come comment and visit sites that have linked back, no matter who they are.
Cheers, Sam
Great style as usual!
This is why the Financial Samurai is one of the best pf blogs out there in our opinion!
Great luck to you sir, and we believe the Yakezie is a thing of beauty in principal and concept!
